Questions
Do I need the Satlink device?
Yes. The app talks to a small Satlink satellite messenger over Bluetooth, and the device sends your texts to the Iridium satellite network. Without the device you can still message over the internet. The Satlink device is coming soon. You won't need to buy one: rent it for your trip for $29 a week, or get one free with a yearly plan. Get notified when it's ready.
Does the person I'm texting need anything?
No. Phone numbers get a normal text message and can reply to it. Other Satlink users get your message in their app.
What's a satellite month?
Satellite service only runs when you need it. Start a trip in the app before you lose signal, and that month counts towards your plan. Months at home cost nothing extra.
Can I cancel?
Yes, at any time from your plan page. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
Where does it work?
Iridium covers the whole planet, including oceans and the poles. Satellite messaging isn't offered in countries that restrict it, such as India, China, Russia and Thailand.
Is Satlink an emergency service?
No. In an emergency, contact local emergency services by any means you have.
