Satlink privacy policy

What Satlink does

Satlink lets you send and receive text messages when your phone has no signal, using a separate satellite device that connects to your phone over Bluetooth. Messages travel over the Iridium satellite network to our server, which delivers them by SMS or to other Satlink users.

Information we collect

Account details: the handle you choose and your email address.
Messages: the text of messages you send and receive, who they are to or from (phone numbers or Satlink handles), and when. We need this to deliver messages and to show your conversation history.
Location: only when you tap Check in, your phone's location is sent to the person you chose. The satellite network also reports an approximate position (to within a few kilometres) of your satellite device each time it sends; we use it to apply legal restrictions on where the service may be used.
Device information: your satellite device's IMEI number and when it last connected.
Payments: handled by Stripe. We receive your plan, payment status and a card fingerprint (used to prevent referral fraud). We never see or store your full card number.
Referrals and partners: referral codes used and rewards paid.
Waiting list and rentals: if you join the device waiting list, your email, used only to tell you when the device is ready. If you rent a device, the delivery address and the device we send you.

Bluetooth is used only to talk to your own Satlink device. We do not use advertising identifiers, run ads, or sell your data.

How we use it

To deliver your messages and run your account and subscription.
To bill you, pay referral rewards and partner commissions, and prevent fraud.
To comply with the law, including satellite licensing rules in some countries.

Who we share it with

The people you message.
Service providers who process data for us: Iridium and our satellite airtime provider (message delivery), our SMS provider (texts to phone numbers), Stripe (payments) and Render (server hosting).
Authorities when the law requires it.

Text messages (SMS)

When a Satlink subscriber sends a message to a phone number, we deliver it by SMS from our number. We do not sell, rent or share phone numbers or SMS opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Phone numbers are used only to deliver and reply to messages. Reply STOP to any Satlink text to stop receiving them, or HELP for help. See our SMS terms.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and messages while your account is open. When you delete your account we delete your messages, devices and saved contacts straight away and remove your name and email. We keep payment and referral records for as long as tax and accounting law requires (usually up to 7 years), without your name or email attached.

Your choices and rights

Delete your account any time: in the app under Account → Delete account, or at https://satlink.app/delete-account.
Ask us for a copy of your data or to correct it by emailing hello@satlink.app.
Turn off location permission in your phone's settings; you can still message, just not check in.

Security

All connections to our server are encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in keys are stored only as one-way hashes.

Children

Satlink is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We will post changes here and update the date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
